You'll travel by road to the Victory Gate of Angkor Thom before heading into the depths of the temple at the atmospheric Preah Palilay and walk (1km) through the shaded parkland behind the terraces, pass Phimeanakas with its beautiful lakes, and the imposing Baphuon to finally reach Jayavarman’s state temple of Bayon at the centre of the city. Over the hour long trip you will see the city transform into countryside, passing by a number of islands until arriving at a stunning traditional wooden Khmer house – Rotanak Villa.

Here you will be met by Chef Nak, your host for the morning, and passionate cook, food writer and advocate of traditional Khmer recipes and ingredients. Chef Nak has scoured the countryside for traditional recipes on the verge of fading from living memory, and is striving to put Cambodian cuisine on the world map. She had worked for Cambodia Living Arts for eight years, an organisation founded by survivors of the bloody Khmer Rouge regime that has spent the past 20 years working to rekindle the Kingdom's fading cultural arts.

Today she will teach you how to cook three traditional and seasonal dishes and a Cambodian cocktail. Learning cooking techniques, flavour combinations, history and culinary culture – a fantastic opportunity to ask questions.

After cooking and assisting, you will sample all the food you have created and also enjoy the luxurious gardens and pool at the house. Then relax on your boat ride back to central Phnom Penh and your hotel.

More than 17,000 people were tortured there before being murdered at the killing fields outside of the city.
