Enjoy a sunrise tour that commences before dawn, offering a magical spectacle as the tropical sun emerges behind the iconic lotus towers of Angkor Wat. Recognized as one of the best places for photography, Angkor Wat stands as a monumental religious complex constructed over 30 years during the reign of King Suryavarman II [AD1113]. Originally designed as a Hindu Mountain temple aligned to the spring equinox, it later transformed into a Theravada Buddhist monument around the 16th century—a role it continues to fulfill today.
As you explore the central complex, marvel at the well-preserved architecture and intricate bas-reliefs depicting scenes from Hindu mythologies and ancient empire battles. Over the hour long trip you will see the city transform into countryside, passing by a number of islands until arriving at a stunning traditional wooden Khmer house – Rotanak Villa.
Here you will be met by Chef Nak, your host for the morning, and passionate cook, food writer and advocate of traditional Khmer recipes and ingredients. Chef Nak has scoured the countryside for traditional recipes on the verge of fading from living memory, and is striving to put Cambodian cuisine on the world map. Today she will teach you how to cook three traditional and seasonal dishes and a Cambodian cocktail. Learning cooking techniques, flavour combinations, history and culinary culture – a fantastic opportunity to ask questions.
